BEWARE OF SHOPS WITH IMPROPER DISPLAY OF ITEMS ABOVE EYE LEVEL

Yes, you may find this entry a bit strange, but, I nearly needed a cornea grafting.

Date: 16th July 2008
Time: 9:15 to 9:30pm
Venue: A shop in Hougang Mall

I was shopping for something in a shop at Hougang Mall. The products in the shop were haphazardly arranged and the items above eye level kept falling off the racks or easily toppled over if they were beneath eye level.

Just as I was trying to check one merchandise, the items, all individually packed in a plastic bag approximately measuring 10cm by 4cm by 0.2cm with SHARP edge, fall and one of the sharp corners went into my right eye. It all happened so fast that despite the fact that I closed my eye, the sharp edge of the bag "scratched" my eye.

There was no immediate bleeding. My right eye started to tear and there was some minor pain/irritation with some redness. Before I know it, I realized the vision was a bit blurred. I could see, but, it was not as good as the left eye. I got very worried and I rushed myself into the nearest family physician.

After examination, I was referred to the SGH A&E. I called my parents, fearing scolding. My mum asked questions but I was really in no mood to answer any questions. I was just hopping and praying very hard that nothing went drastically wrong with my eye!!! I was so afraid that my parents would scold me. I was so scared!!!!

Just afraid.

I called my parents immediately as I hopped into a cab to pick my parents up. I needed some calm support, but at the same time, was so frustrated!!! Anyhow, I was glad that my parents accompanied me at the A&E.

Well, the fact that I can blog now and go to work later meant that the injury was manageable. I just had to go back to SNEC for follow-ups. I am very thankful that my right eye vision will recover in some days time.

But, this is my warning to all of you reading m blog:

PLEASE BE VERY VERY VERY CAREFUL OF SHOPS WHICH HAVE ITEMS HANGING ON RACKS ABOVE EYE LEVEL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN THE THINGS WILL FALL ON YOU.

IT MAY HIT YOUR HEAD AND THE AFTERMATH COULD BE TERRIBLE.

OR IT MAY BE AN INJURY LIKE MINE.

I don’t have the money and the energy to sue the shop for such irresponsible arrangement. I can only warn you, and hope, you will also warn your friends to be careful of shops which cram a lot of things on their racks ABOVE EYE LEVEL to save space.

You never know when nasty accidents will happen.

I am glad that I am alright, but, you MUST NOT be the next victim. Do not take such things for granted.

Please warn your family and friends and loved ones.

Sigh… … I better go to temple to pray to ward off the nasty luck.
